Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Website Lane collects, why, who it’s shared with and your rights, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Last updated 15 October 2026
Who I am
Website Lane is the trading name of Manpreet Rana, a sole trader based in Papatoetoe, Auckland, New Zealand (“I”, “me”). I’m responsible for the personal information I collect, and I’m also my own privacy officer. To ask a question, make a request or raise a concern:
- Email: sales@websitelane.nz
- Phone or WhatsApp: 022 393 5450
What I collect
- When you send an enquiry through the quote form: your name and email address, and, if you choose, your phone number, business name, current website, the services you’re interested in and what you tell me about your business.
- When you call, email or message me (including on WhatsApp): your phone number or email address and whatever you choose to share.
- When we work together: the details needed to do the job and run my business — such as your contact details, the content you supply for your website, access you give me to accounts, and invoice and payment records. I never ask for card details through this website.
- When you visit this website: the hosting provider automatically records basic technical information — such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit — for security and to keep the site running.
I collect this information directly from you. You don’t have to give it, but without your contact details I can’t reply to you. Please don’t send sensitive information (such as health or financial details) unless I ask for it for a specific reason.
Why I collect it
- to reply to your enquiry and understand what you need
- to prepare a recommendation, quote or invoice
- to design, build, launch and look after your website or provide other services you ask for
- to keep business and tax records, and meet my legal obligations
- to keep this website secure and stop spam
I only use your information for these purposes, or for something directly related that you’d reasonably expect. I won’t add you to a marketing list because you got in touch, and I won’t send you marketing emails or messages without your consent.
Who I share it with
I don’t sell or rent personal information. I only share it where it’s needed to run my business:
- Hostinger hosts this website. When you submit the quote form, it’s processed on Hostinger’s servers and emailed to me; it isn’t saved in a database.
- My email provider stores the emails I send and receive.
- WhatsApp (owned by Meta) handles messages you choose to send me there, under its own privacy policy. This website doesn’t send anything to WhatsApp itself — the WhatsApp button just opens the app with a message for you to review and send.
- My accountant and Inland Revenue may see invoice and payment records, as needed for tax.
- Others, only when required: if the law requires it, or with your permission.
Information stored overseas
Some of the services I use (such as hosting and email) may store information on servers outside New Zealand. They hold it on my behalf to provide their service, I remain responsible for it, and I choose providers with security protections comparable to those in the Privacy Act.
How I protect and keep it
- I’m the only person who handles your information, and I use secure, reputable providers with strong passwords and two-step sign-in.
- Enquiries that don’t go ahead are deleted within 12 months. Records of work I’ve done, including invoices, are kept for 7 years, as New Zealand tax law requires, then deleted.
- To protect the quote form from spam, the website keeps a short-lived, anonymous count of submissions per connection for up to an hour. It doesn’t contain your details.
- If there’s ever a privacy breach that’s likely to cause serious harm, I’ll tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as possible, as the Privacy Act requires.
Cookies and analytics
This website doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and its fonts are hosted on this site rather than loaded from third parties. After you send an enquiry, your browser briefly stores a value in session storage so the site can tell an enquiry was sent; it contains no personal information and is removed straight away. So the quick-quote pop-up appears no more than once per visit, your browser also keeps a running count of seconds spent on the site during your visit, and the date until which the pop-up should stay away after you close it or send an enquiry. These stay on your device, are never sent to me and contain no personal information; you can clear them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data. If I ever add analytics, I’ll update this policy first and ask for your consent where required.
Your rights
- You can ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you, free of charge.
- You can ask me to correct it if it’s wrong. If I don’t agree to a correction, you can ask me to note your request with the information.
- I’ll respond as soon as I can, and within 20 working days.
- If you’re not happy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to theOffice of the Privacy Commissioner.
Websites I build for clients
If I build or look after a website for your business, your website’s visitors and enquiries are your responsibility, and your website needs its own privacy policy. When I handle that information while working for you, I only use it to provide the service.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version, with its date, is always on this page.
